Arizona Resort Golf Home to Hit Auction Block May 8

[ClickPress, Fri Apr 20 2007] A brand new 2,023 square foot home on the first hole of the championship golf course at the resort community of Robson Ranch will be sold at auction on Tuesday, May 8, at noon, according to Tom Starrs auctioneer for CENTURY 21 Catalina Realty.

Starrs said that the auction will be conducted live on site at 5406 W Corral Drive, but will also be open to real-time online bidding over the Internet as well. We are pleased to offer the online bidding option for this home, said Starrs, so that interested people who cannot attend the auction in person can bid from their home or office.

This two-bedroom, two-bath Southwestern home has many upgrades, including bay windows on the golf course side and an extended garage, as well as a separate guest casita that provides a third bedroom and bath.

New-home builders try auctions, some online, as the market softens

Could something akin to eBay auctions be the next stop for new-home builders facing a glut of unsold properties?

Inland builders in recent months have been cutting prices and throwing in extras such as free swimming pools to move their new houses in a slowing market. And recently, joining a national trend, some are finding success with public auctions, traditionally seen more as a way to sell artwork or rare antiques.

Some of those builders are incorporating online elements into their auctions, giving Web shoppers a chance to bid in real time against the on-premises participants.

Economist who aided Canada wins top honour

Susan Athey garnered worldwide attention last week when she became the first woman to win one of the economics profession's major prizes. But her academic bona fides were already well established in Canada -- as the professor who helped design lucrative timber auctions that helped take some of the sting out of a long-standing trade dispute with the United States.

The 36-year-old Harvard University professor made history on Friday when she won the prestigious John Bates Clark Medal, awarded every two years to the United States's most promising economist under the age of 40.

"It's pretty incredible," Dr. Athey said yesterday in a telephone interview from her home in Cambridge, Mass., just after she and her husband succeeded in putting their two young children down for an afternoon nap.

Breaking News Shell bids aggressively in federal Beaufort Sea ...

Shell Gulf of Mexico Inc. dominated bidding Wednesday in the federal Outer Continental Shelf Lease Sale 202 in the Alaska Beaufort Sea, winning 49 of 92 tracts leased by the U.S. Minerals Management Service and offering the highest bids of the sale. There was significant competition in bidding, however, from Total USA Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of the Paris-based company. Total acquired 32 tracts, most of them adjacent to offshore areas on which Shell offered the high bids of the sale. Eni Petroleum Inc., subsidiary of the Italian firm Eni, acquired seven leases that were in nearshore waters adjacent to where the company is working on development of a discovery. Most bids in the sale, including those from Total, were near the minimum requested by the MMS. Shell bid the highest offers, including $14.1 million for Tract 6609, $4.2 million for Tract 6460 and $2.1 million for Tract 6406.
