TORONTO (CP) - The Toronto stock market moved further into record-high territory Monday morning amid a takeover deal in the steelmaking industry. Merger and acquisition activity and positive earnings news also pushed New York markets higher, even as March retail sales came in slightly below expectations. Toronto's S&P/TSX composite index gained 29.84 points to 13,608.46 following last week's 1.1 per cent gain as another Canadian steelmaker looks set to be sold to a foreign company. .
Nevada Auction Firm President Facing Criminal Theft Charges
The head of an auction firm advertising itself as Nevada's largest is facing criminal charges in the theft of cars, guns, jewelry, televisions, clothing and other items. Court records show that Premier Estate Auctions president Kelly Sue Jackson is due in Las Vegas Justice Court on June 28th on burglary and grand larceny charges. Attempts to locate Jackson were unsuccessful. Company telephones have been disconnected. Her lawyer declined comment. The Nevada state Consumer Affairs division says it's got at least eight customer complaints against Premier Estate Auctions. Court documents show that at least three other people have filed civil complaints against Jackson and Premier Estate Auctions for not repaying loans, breach of contract or fraud.
Burlco eyes Web auctions
Burlington County plans to join other local governments in auctioning government surplus items on the Web. The Burlington County Freeholders authorized its treasurer's office to sign an agreement with GovDeals Inc., which operates an Internet auction site called www.govdeals.com. The freeholders said they will sell vehicles and office equipment to the public online to make more money, save time and attract more bidders. Sharon Brauckmann, county purchasing agent, said the auction would be held later this year and not until the state Department of Community Affairs gives its approval. She said the state must approve a county application to waive the normal local public auction using an auctioneer. Kurt Brock, the county's chief financial officer, said the state is approving Internet auctions of government property only on eBay and GovDeals.

Emotional Ash bids farewell to parents
Mumbai, April. 21 (PTI): It was an emotional moment for Aishwarya Rai today as she bid farewell to her parents and relatives to embark on her new life as a member of one of India's iconic families. Clad in a cream-coloured lehenga, Aishwarya cried as she hugged mother Brinda Rai during the 'bidaai' (traditional farewell) from her residence La Merin in suburban Bandra. Aishwarya and Abhishekh Bachchan had tied the nuptial knot here yesterday. "Obviously every daughter gets emotional when she bids goodbye to the house in which she is brought up in but there is also sense of happiness that she is going to a man whom she loved," said the actress' business manager Hari Singh. Aishwarya came in a traditional 'doli' (palanquin) till the gate of the building from where the star couple moved on into a decorated car to escape the prying eyes of the media.
