| Auction to test value of state trust land
A state trust land auction on Tuesday will test the value of 125 acres in one of Scottsdale's busiest corridors for corporate offices. The Arizona State Land Department is offering the land northeast of Loop 101 and Bell Road in a 99-year commercial lease. The appraised land value is $68.5 million, or $550,000 per acre. Scottsdale in 2005 paid $47.2 million, or $590,000 per acre, for 80 acres of state trust land near the city's WestWorld event park, which is southeast of Loop 101 and Bell Road. .
Auction sites bite back on touts
Internet auction sites have been criticised by concert promoters, who view them as enemy number one in the fight against ticket touts. Here two such sites - eBay and viagogo - defend their position. The scene is familiar to music lovers up and down the land. You hammer the telephone, open numerous windows on the internet, but you still fail to get your hands on a ticket for your favourite band. .
Masonic Temple to hold auction
SPRINGFIELD - One man's closet full of vintage Masonic heavy wool waistcoats might be another man's treasure. That is the hope of the Springfield Masonic Temple as it prepares for an auction of furnishings and other items, scheduled for today at 11 a.m. at the historic Masonic Building, 339 State St. A preview was held yesterday and another was scheduled for today from 9 to 11 a.m. The auction is needed because the association - attempting to sell the building and move to a smaller site - is unable to keep all the current belongings, said President Robert E. Karowski. "It's very sad it has come to this," he said. "It's a very beautiful building, has a lot of history. We are keeping what we feel we need for the new building." The new site has not been finalized yet and a potential buyer of the current building has not yet been able to secure funding, Masonic officials said.
AIDS Services hosts annual charity auction
ArtErotica, an annual charity auction and dance party for AIDS Services of Austin, is back on track with a new date and venue after plans to hold the event last month were derailed by a fire code conflict. The festive fundraiser will take place Saturday night from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. at the Tillery Street Theater. "We're ready to rock 'n' roll," said Tim Young, co-chair of the organization's fundraising arm The Octopus Club. The event will feature more than 200 pieces of erotic art donated from both local and out-of-state artists. Complimentary drinks and erotic deserts will be provided by local food artists and businesses, including Twin Liquors and the Texas Culinary Academy. Two disc jockeys and live models sporting Ginch Gonch and Andrew Christian underwear will also be in attendance, Young said.
