| Cable networks shun eBay online exchange
AUCTIONS on eBay may be adored by millions of consumers around the world, but the large cable television networks have decided they want nothing to do with them. Cable networks like Turner Networks, Discovery, Lifetime and ESPN have decided to boycott an online exchange designed by eBay to sell advertising time, the Cabletelevision Advertising Bureau, a trade group in New York, said. Without the participation of cable networks, the eBay exchange will have no air time to sell to advertisers. .
Seagrove pottery to be auctioned on Saturday
The N.C. Pottery Center in Seagrove will hold its annual benefit auction 4-8 p.m. Saturday. "Going, Going, Gone To Pots!" will offer for sale about 200 pieces of contemporary and historical N.C. pottery. During the silent auction, from 4 to 6 p.m., there will be a catered light buffet. The Spare Time Band will provide live music. A live auction, with dessert and coffee available, will be held 6-8 p.m. Items can be seen through Saturday at the center or online at www.ncpotterycenter.com. Absentee bids will be accepted. CMS Issues Competitive Bidding Final Rule
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) late Monday issued a final rule for competitive bidding in Medicare for certain durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics and supplies. In a news release, CMS noted that in 2008 the competitive bidding program will operate in competitive bidding areas within 10 of the largest Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs), excluding the New York, Los Angeles and Chicago MSAs for logistical reasons. The program will apply to 10 of the top durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics and supplies, or DMEPOS, product categories outlined in the final rule. The program will be expanded into 70 additional MSAs in 2009 and after 2009 CMS will expand the program to additional areas and items, agency officials said.

Just in time for the 2008 presidential race, a certified "Friend of Bill" is bidding to acquire the Tribune Company, which owns the Los Angeles Times and Chicago Tribune. Burkle and Eli Broad sumbitted their bid yesterday to Tribune management.According to his Wikipedia entry:Burkle is a well-known political contributor and longtime Democratic fundraiser. He supported the Black Panthers in the Sixties. Burkle has supported California State Treasurer Phil Angelides and employed former San Francisco Mayor Willie BrownBurkle is a close friend of former President Bill Clinton, who calls Burkle's Boeing 757 private jet "Ron Air." Clinton, who is a senior adviser to Burkle's company, Yucaipa, wrote in his memoir, "My Life", that Burkle "became one of my best friends." India bids for Asiad 2014
India and South Korea are making one last attempt to outbid each other as the Olympic Council of Asia's General Assembly meet today ( April 17) to decide the host of the 2014 Asian Games. The 45-member OCA, headed by Council President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, will announce their decision tomorrow (April 18) after the conclusion of its two-day general assembly. South Korea's Incheon and Delhi are in fray to win the bid for the games but India sounded confident of bringing back the Asiad after a long gap of 32 years. Indian Olympic Association President Suresh Kalmadi said, "We are doing our canvassing very well. Many Asian countries are backing us. The next 24-hours will be crucial. We are noting what they are doing and we will do everything needed at the floor tomorrow," .
